| I had to replace my transaxle, but unfortunately the shift rod is in a different location than on my previous tranny. It's a little bit higher, and the set bolt is oriented differently. I cut the shifter out and welded a nut on the where the set bolt holds onto the shift shaft since my current was getting stripped out, and re-indexed where the bolt hits, but I can't get the shifts to feel very nice. I think my shifter is too high/low/left/right or a combination thereof. What is the best way, or any tricks, to get the shifter to line up correctly? |

It sounds to me like your shifter shaft is binding against the shifter sleeve, it's inside the tunnel...by pulling the shifter up at a higher angle your binding against the sleeve...it's like trying to pull a bolt thru a washer that fits good but now try pulling the bolt thru keeping it at an angle...you will wear out that sleeve in no time...best solution is to swap your old nose cone and shift fork onto the new tranny...then you'll be back in business.
have fun!
