View original topic: RHD Oval Vert Visors - expert required!

Ricardo from SPU is in the process of making some Visors for my 55 Vert.

The car was built RHD and sold new in the UK and over time has lost its original visors. With so few pre Aug-55 Verts to check in the UK I have a question on how the visors would have looked when new.

The question is this.

Talking a LHD car, I believe that from new, a pre Aug-55 Vert would have a "long" visor fitted to the drivers side and a "short" visor fitted to the passenger side.

A RHD car would therefore have the same but were visors specifically made for RHD cars? Or as some have suggested, the visors would have been flipped over 180 degrees to look correct for RHD?

If you get my meaning and if this is correct, when the visors are moved down in a RHD car you would be looking at the tail of the frame rivets, not the head. And the trailing edge moulding would also therefore not be as intended in a LHD car.

So, does anyone have a clue on this? Any help much appreciated.

Never really thought about it, but from all indications, my RHD 55 has the original visors and I think when I flip it down I see the rivet heads, not the tails.

I will look around a little.

I would think that they would have to match whatever the drivers visor looks like when it's flipped down.

Logic says that but I wouldn't be surprised if by 1955 so few RHD Oval Verts had been sold they were not making RHD Verts visors by then.

This would be good info to discuss in the oval dash vert thread! and likely to get more response!

Just an opinion

I would think since they also have that lip around the bottom that the RHD passenger visor would also have to have been made by VW when the verts were mnfr'd. I don't think VW would have allowed a vert to go out with that lip facing the wrong direction or the rivets also.

Thought that initially Mike (and will post now  ) but I've noticed that sometimes you get more responses when you post in the main forum...

Well that's what we would think today but I believe it was not like that 55 years ago. I can very well understand it if they didn't make specific RHD visors and just used the LHD items the other way around.

After all, for quite some time UK cars were delivered with the lockable door handle fitted to what is the passenger door on a RHD car!
