| I am about to rebuild the engine of my 73 squareback. I want to know how much money am i supposed to invest in parts? what needs to be usually replaced in a engine rebuild? |

I don't know IF we could give you a good estimate, due to you being in Israel. First, the dollar is lower there, and then you would have to add shipping, which would probably cost more than the car is worth (the cost is probably that of the parts +). In general, a stock rebuild will probably cost between 800 and 1500 dollars, and even more IF you're paying someone to build it for you, in the USA. Higher end IF more parts are needed or machined, and lower end IF you're doing it yourself, and already have a stash of parts. The last one I rebuilt, I had around 1200 with parts, shipping and machining, then I assembled it myself. Russ could probably build himself one for less, but that's because of his stash of parts, and access to a machine shop (where he'd do the machining himself).
For you, in the area you're in, I'd check with the nearest VW auto parts place, and see who they would/could recommend for either parts, machining, or someone to build it for you, or even all of the above. |
