I'm looking for advice, suggestions and recommendations for camping along the Texas Gulf Coast.

It looks like there's a slew of parks and then the Padre Island National Seashore. Definitely headed there.

Any recommended scenic drives through South and Central Texas.

I hope my green 78 doesn't attract too much attention.

Coming back through New Orleans then home to A2.

Where's the best fried s'rimp?

Stop off here in San Antonio. Just above us is great camping in New Braunfels. Very German town with cool historic things to see as well as Landa Park. Come down through San Antonio and visit the Alamo and the River Walk-relax next to the river and have a cold one. Then its just a easy half day down to where you want to be at the Gulf. If you do stop through here-give me a shout, Ill show you the "Texas Gold" lost VW yard and maybe let you touch some of my VW stuff over a cold one.

Austin and San Antonio sound like a great idea. Then a short drive down to Corpus Christie.

Passing thru Austin, New Braunfels and San Antonio looks like a good route down to the Corpus Christie.

Is there an old coast road next to the shore over to Port Arthur, home of Janis Joplin?

Your green '78 will attract plenty of attention if it has any Che Guevara stickers on it

Id say its the last bit of anything worth seeing before you reach your destination. Dont forget Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels and SeaWorld-Six Flags in San Antonio.
