View original topic: Dashpad paint and Turn Indicator Questions

My dashpad is in decent condition aside from a small crack and the fact that it appears to have been painted at some point (some paint flaking off). Somewhere fairly recently i thought i saw that someone had used a flexible vinyl paint maybe? to recoat the dashpad. I couldnt find the thread but i dont remember seeing the name of the product or how to prep the surface before painting. Does anyone have any information on this perhaps??

Also, my passenger side from turn indicator (blinker), stays fully illuminated when the headlight/parking light switch is turned on. It doesnt blink or cycle either when the turn indicator switch is engaged, but the rear light does blink. Any ideas?

I have a fabric dashpad cover in my square that fits very well...

as far as the turn signal, check your connections and fuses: sounds like a short...

May have a shorted bulb or even might be a wrong bulb. Either one can cause your light prob.

Plasti-cote has the best plastic and vinyl paints I have seen. Make sure you buy the paint specific to your material (the dash is usually vinyl). You need to prep, clean and prime accoeding to directions. This paint is designed for re-coloring vinyl arm rests...and will not come of when properly painted and applied. Ray

is there a way to save a pad with a huge crack where the speaker is ? mabey fill it in sand it then paint it????

I had a split in mine, I duct taped the front and gorilla glued it from the rear. After it dried I pulled the tape off and vinyl dyed (duplicolor) it.
I had to clean out some speaker holes but it worked pretty well. The crack was 70-80% of the width of the dash.

I have a long term project I am playing with for restoring the dash from my 412. I have a spare dash. it has several ugly cracks. What I am going to try doing is to fill teh cracks with paintable/sandable/flexible urethane sealant. Then sand the entire dash until most of the pebble texture is just visible but all smooth. Then I have been testing various high build, smooth texture, flexible, spray on truck vinyl bed liner materials.
I will spray one thin even layer. Then when it tacks up....I will spray it with a fine but even layer of chipped graded clay. This material is used for HO and I scale ballast in model railroads and diorama work. Its uniformly graded and then washed.

Over that I will spray another layer of smooth bed liner. The pebble tone this makes is slightly differnt from factory but should be very even and uniform....and last a very long time. I let you know how my tests come out. Ray
