It bothers me... lol Is there any way to compensate for this if you go a little lower in the rear? Seriously, I think it just looks sloppy and hacky.

Yucky

Put it on a later IRS chassis but that still has SOME chamber......

Ragman Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:39 pm

just don't drop the rear so much if you don't like the look. only go one outer click and it won't be so cambered out.

gbsmallie Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:51 pm

I like it. I like to buy tires every 1500 miles too. Great "Daily Driver" status, straight ballin'

You can raise the tranny.

Sigurd Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:52 pm

I don't mind a little. More than about one outer starts looking funny...to me, of course.

I'm at 5 and 5.

some love it some hate it! its all personal taste
you can do a irs conversion on your early pan
this will allow you to lower the rear without as much camber

I like the low look but I don't like the neg. camber. But then again my 67 is stock height and I like that too. But unfortunately, without the addition of more time and money, the camber is a definite side effect of going that low. So is the starvation of the outer bearings.

I really dig the stance of your car. Agree, cambered out any more than that just doesn't look as well.

Thanks. :)

here you go
2" tranny raise

Sprø Norsk Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:39 pm

Camber as far as looks does not bother me. The toe and camber issues that make the car a wreck to drive bothers me. Nothing drives like a stock ride, but that is not the point of this thread :P

67 Shane Wed Mar 17, 2010 3:02 pm

Everything can be reasonably fixed. If the toe is screwed up extend the spring plates. For camber as stated before do a tranny raise.
The camber by the way drives my mother nuts! She says something about it every time shes driving behind me.

tylergeddis Wed Mar 17, 2010 3:29 pm

I personally like "postitve camber" with bias-ply tires, its the sh*t!

Sigurd Wed Mar 17, 2010 4:28 pm

Though even a trans raise won't fix the actual travel arc of the wheel.

Helfen Wed Mar 17, 2010 6:18 pm

I'm sure if it was such a great idea Dr. Porsche would have designed it that way.

Yeah, that and every improvement made after his involvement ended

Negative camber is doing a lot worse things to your car than just looking funky. Swing axles were never meant to stay in that position for very long. However, I like the look. Funky and cool is what V-dubbin' is all about. Doing a tranny lift is probably the cheapest way of correcting it though. Otherwise you're getting into IRS conversions and/or lifting the entire rear suspension from the torsion bars back. Some guys will just throw on a set of low profile tires and call it done.

One notch looks good, but I dont care for the broke axle look. I dropped my 65 one outer notch 23 years ago and have been asked what is wrong with my back wheels.

I like one outter personally too...I guess it depends on the car. I've seen some very nicely built and tasteful cars dropped two splines. Another thing that starts to look rediculous are 6"+ narrowed beams, unless you're running wheels with a nasty offset or disc brakes and drop spindles.
