I'm very interested in a car down in Asheville, NC. Are there any air cooled VW shops in the area or a trusty mechanic?
I would be... sit down... looking to drive it back up to Boston and would ideally like to have it looked at.
Much appreciated |

No google on that one, I lived in Asheville for 6 years and called German Automotive (Whitey) almost weekly.
Skips is a shop in Hendersonville that worked on a lot of aircooled cars.
Jon Furst (hazetguy) is building my engine, trans and recently completed my front end so I am 1000% confident in his work, but I also know he is busy these days so I didn't want to put another thing on his plate. |

NpBusGuy, thank you. Your contacts have really given me confidence around the Asheville area.
Haven't heard from the seller yet - hope to today.
If the car is still available, hopefully Jon has a spare moment to take a look at it - I can try and set up something with the seller to drop it off at his place. |

I live in Hendersonville about 20 miles from Asheville. Skip is the man when it comes to volkswagens. Whitey knows his stuff to but he is not a "mechanic" he sells parts and does some kicka$$ machine work.

thanks for the good words. we just had our baby, and while i considered following up on checking out the bug, i just don't have the time to do that right now. baby, family coming in to town, work to get caught up on, and lack of sleep, would just not allow me any time to get to checking it out any time soon. sorry.

Hey Jon, thank you again - just replied to your PM.
Thank you for the support guys - exactly why I joined the Samba.
Haven't heard from the seller yet.
I'll update you when I do - sounds like there are quite a few people who might be able to take a peak at it for me. Egor - we'll be in touch.
This is the car in question...

Any comments? I don't recognize the engine - those stacks are throwing me off. |
