Hi,
I have a 69 squareback with dual carbs. This is my first car with carburetors so I'm in new territory - bear with me when I don't use the proper terminology.
i've put in a new dual solex setup. here is a picture of a set that looks very similar:
**not my album, thanks to whoever's album that is
my question is, those cylinder-shaped things on the far side of each carb -- where do those plug in? they weren't on the old carbs, so i have no idea where to hook those up.
also, the car starts up fine, but when I get to driving, the engine shudders or stalls in between gears (or in low RPMs). i've played with the idle speed with no success (although i haven't synced them yet as the sync tool hasn't arrived yet).
i'm thinking it has something to do with the thing I have no idea where to plug in, or not having synced up the carbs.
probably not related but worth mentioning: i did have to make some modifications to the spring as the carburetor tended to stick open when i pressed the gas.
thanks in advance! |

| those are the idle cut off solenoids, if they aren't fiteed or been replaced by a stock idle jet you'll never get the engine to idle :( |

| Those need to be connected to a power source or the car wont idle. Usually there's a wire jumpered from the coil positive to each idle solenoid |

thanks, i had a feeling it was an easy fix.
now, my follow-up question: another part of the carb is already connected to the coil. in the picture i provided above, it is on the backside and not visible in the picture. that part has a second, loose wire that is not connected to any power source. it was that way when i got the car. i'm assuming i can connect that to the idle solenoid? or do i have to connect directly to the coil?
(sorry for my lack of vocab, i'm learning as I go) |

update for anyone helping me out:
i connected the idle solenoid to the other part of the carb with the stray wire attached (which was connected to the coil with another wire).
motor still stumbles and stalls! any ideas?
it idles decent when i start the car up, but once i get going, it stalls in between gears and at low RPM. |

Sounds like the accelerator pumps are not working.
Have these carbs been sitting for a long time?? Then may need to be have a kit put in them if they have.
The rubber parts dry out and harden if they sit. |
