68 Bay Transporter
I'm new to buses and I'm trying to learn.
See the electrical outlet? Anybody else see this in a bus?
Wondering why and how. |

Um well there is no picture so I don't know what we are looking at.
Ah, it is there in your gallery:
I have seen this on a couple camper conversions but weird on a transporter. Probably added by a PO. |

Clean interior? Hell, that's patina!!!
It isn't mine.
BUT, it may become part of the family. Don't know yet. IF it does, it will get a build thread here.
The reason I posted (although I forgot the pic  ) is because hubby *might* be going to get it. Just want to get an opinion on that outlet....
I love that red interior, too. It's OG, but the outer paint isn't. It was originally all white, but now it's blue below the beltline.
Hubby says if he gets it, he would leave the upper part white but paint the lower black so there's a nicer contrast with the red interior.
If it comes home with him Friday, I can post more pics! |

Well, the outlet is odd, and is not original IMO. But it is not a cause for concern or any reason not to get the bus. I would investigate the wiring, and see what's up. If it is at all suspect, just cover it with something else.
Another bus to be worked on! Fun fun! :P |

| That's pretty cool, though it seems like it would be a challenge to run the wires from there. I'd like a pic of the back, like between the seat and seatback. -Actually I'd like to see a picture of that with the ashtray that's supposed to be there, too, as mine is uncut. Red interiors are super awesome, That would clash hellaciously with neptune blue :-) |

A two gang electrical box actually does fit the ashtray hole pretty well.... :? .... I was looking at doing it this way on my Adventurewagen..... but my cabinet covers it up now... :)
Under the drivers seat should be a cable with a plug on it and a small hatch to route the cord outside to plug in to a 110v outlet... Mine had the cord and hatch original but not the outlet in that location... :)
I'm sure it was a after thought but probably a asset if you go camping in RV parks... 8) |

Yeah, the pics that we first saw on Craigslist didn't have any of the interior, so when we had the owner send us pics - I tripped out on the red interior.
It's in incredible shape, the only shame is a small hole in the driver's seat. Even the middle seat is nice.
There are small rust holes in the dog legs. Not big enough to replace, but small enough to be patched and welded. The battery tray, however, is MIA.
There's a small repaired dent in the lower rear passenger corner, some minor surface rust here and there. Otherwise, it's nice and solid.
It is, unfortunately, missing the motor and tranny. We're chasing that down, too so if it works out, we'll already have a line on a drive train.
Found both in the Samba classifieds, but the guy won't contact us. :( |

Not original? I guess I better learn more about buses...
BY THE WAY...IF ANY OF YOU KNOW ME, PLEASE DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS BUS!
HUBBY JUST CAME IN AND SAID HE DIDN'T WANT ANYBODY TO KNOW ABOUT IT!
keep it a secret... for now.... |

that plug is standard on the early models for the VW autopilot to plug in. Unfortunately it requires shore power and VW could not find extension cords of adequate length so it and the autopilot were discontinued on later years.
