Same as last year, Beach and the 405. I need to set up an EXACT location, but that's the general area. I wish it was different, but with Don's car troubles, it's put a damper on things. As long he's there, that's all that matters.
I will be there no worries, (Just in my Truck :( ) |

Yo Don,
I installed my engine this past weekend and am sooo close to having it ready for the classic. If I didn't have to spend tuesday through friday in vegas for work, I would totally have it broken in and driven its first 300 miles by saturday so that I can bring it to the classic. Ah well, I'll see you guys at the bbq at least in my honder |

Roll call! OC meet up will be the same as last year...same gas station off Beach. Who are you, what are you driving, and where are you meeting everyone(LA or OC)?

Hey guys,
In the past, our cruise typically started with me and Becket meeting in west LA, then we would head down to Carson to meet up with Don, Tim, Notary (and whoever else), then on down to meet up with the western orange county folks at a gas station near the 405 freeway (usually at the Beach or Erdinger exit). From there, we would either head straight down the 405 to the show or stop at the host hotel and meet up with all the other T3 folks before entering.
What we can do this year is we can have the West LA group do their La/Carson meetup and have the OCT3 guys do their meetup in Tustin simultaneously, and then we can have both groups meet up near the intersection of the 55 and 405 freeways so that we can have a MASSIVE T3 line-up cruising down the remainder of the 405. I think this would be really cool if we could pull it off. If we plan to meet somewhere near the 405/55 interchange approx an hour before they start letting people into the show, that'd probably be ideal. I know some Tustin folks might want to just take the 5 down and meet at the interchange of the 5 and 405, but there's not much road left between there and the show, and there are few places near that interchange to pull off and meet up with people.
Sound good? |

this sounds perfect. the OCT3 meet spot is right near the 5/55 intersection, and once you're on the 55 you're only about 5 minutes from the 5/405 interchange. we could meet at the south coast plaza parking lot off the 405 @ bristol, near bloomingdales. the parking lot is huge, right off the freeway (1 stop light) and would be a perfect staging location to have everyone meet up and caravan down. what do you think? |

Here's a meeting place that I think will work for everyone:
There is an event called "Cars and Coffee" early every Saturday morning in the Irvine Spectrum, where the 5 and 405 meet in Orange County. It's on the way to the Classic for both the Orange County and LA groups, as well as anyone coming from the Inland Empire. In addition, its not out of the way for Type 3 owners coming from San Diego.
"Cars and Coffee" usually starts at about 6am. It draws muscle cars, sports cars, exotics, classics, and just about everything else. It might be cool to congregate there because a collection of Type 3s would make quite a statement to the "non-VW" people there, there is ample parking with easy access, and it's an easy 5-10 minute "parade" on surface streets from there to the Classic.
PS - maybe we should start a new thread called "2011 Type 3 Cruise to the Classic." In fact, I think I will. |

i'm going to have to disagree with meeting up at cars and coffee. its going to be hectic with all the other cars there and is pretty far down in irvine. isn't the purpose of the caravan to drive some reasonable distance all together? i think the south coast plaza meeting place is solid. there's tons of space (so we're not competing to find each other among cars and coffee), its centralized (at the intersection of 2 major freeways for all the so cal/LA T3 guys) and its convenient (right off the freeway). |
