View original topic: Question on Cleaning up VIN plate

Here's a pic of my 56 VIN plate. I bead blasted the whole plate except where the actual # is stamped. I didnt know if bead blasting it would remove the # or not? Any other suggestions on cleaning that up? I also need to reattach it to the new clip panel, anyone have a source for similar rivets? Thx

Nice thread Russ. Thx, very informative. Mine was just light surface rust. I think i'll try light bead blasting it and spraying it with a satin clear finish. I had to weld in a nos front tire / brake reservoir shelf thingy and it is from a 58. It has an extra rib which doesn't really give me the room to place the "made in western germany" plate below it. Should I place it to the side or leave it off? I kinda like the plate itself :?

PS: Russ you still got any rivets left over 8) I'll send you back an extra Gold Medal from the Winter Olympics that we don't need "down here".

.

post a pic of the area. if no real spot to place it i would leave it off, rather than place it in an unusual spot
