| I have a straight shifter and a bent or jogged shifter that came with my 56. Was wondering which is correct? I saw a couple 56"s in the Gallery w/the bent one , I'm assuming tht's the correct one? |

The 1956-62 shifter is bent, and measures 10mm diameter
1963-67 shifter is also bent, but tapers to 7mm at the knob end |

There are 3 types of straight shifters.
1943-52 used a 10mm solid shaft, the fulcrum ball was very small on these. These also required the use of a much taller base assembly (see pic below)
1953-55 also used a 10mm solid shaft. The fulcrum ball is the standard size used on shifters till 1979.
1968-79 straight shifters utilize a 12mm, hollow pipe. |
