I just bought a second '72 Ghia converible (the first for parts), and I noticed today that, even though they are in the same model year, they have different front bumper mounts. Does anyone know why?
Here is car#1: (VIN 1422248716), with the front bumper mounted inside the trunk (driver's side):
Here is the front view of the same car showing where the bumper bracket is placed:
Here is car#2: (VIN 1422135506) which has no front bumper mount in the trunk, as you can see below:
...but it is located in the wheel well, as shown below:
:
Here is the front of car which shows the bracket placement:
Was there some special reason for the difference? Is it just a mid-year change that I've not heard of before? Or was it to accommodate some special accessory, like A/C?
Thanks,

could be one of two things:
1. mid year change
2. your other car has had a nose job and the nose was replaced with an earlier one |

There was no mid-year change.
Car #1 has an earlier nose clip from pre-1972.
Just curious because the pic is unclear, but does
car #1 have a later (72-74) front bumper on it or
the earlier version?
It's clear that car #2 does have the later bumper. |

Yes, it appears that you are correct. Upon closer inspection, there is a partial front clip welded on. Also, while the bumper is indeed the 72-74 style, it has been altered to fit the older clip.
As always, thanks for the good info. from this site.
