73 super.pulling the motor. I got 3 bolts out and all wires off.I'm pulling pushing and picking it up and I can't see a gap between the trans! What am I doing wrong?

Glenn Thu Mar 18, 2010 4:46 pm

There's a 4th bolt.

PatterBon Thu Mar 18, 2010 4:46 pm

Thats because there are 4 bolts holding the engine to the transmission...

PatterBon Thu Mar 18, 2010 4:47 pm

Damn Glenn..beat me to it

I feel like a ritard! Is it up high on the pass side? Thanks

PatterBon Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:12 pm

There are four bolts total, one in each "corner".

The top two are bolts going from the transmission side of the bellhousing towards the engine.

The bottom two are studs from the engine with nuts on the transmission side.

The bolt "high on the pass side" is like the one pictured below, with a captive head on the transmission side and a nut on the engine side. Reach behind the fan shroud to access the nut. It's a little tricky, but doable.

Time for one of these.

Two nuts at the base, and two bolts at the top. One bolt is at the top of the starter.

Nut at the right of this pic, the starter bolt points toward the rear. Remove it from in FRONT of the fan.

booch, mine was not like the one shown, just a regular bolt. had a hell of a time getting it undone, just kept spinning. where can i get those?

Starter bolt is part # 111199101

That can be found from any number of suppliers, here is a link to one:
