Hi Friends, Im back. 67 split bus. I attempted to check my front brake pads today and give the moving parts a little grease. Unfortunately I cant get the drum off. why you ask? the hub nut came off with ease. but those star adjusters. I turned it the wrong way and it tightened the pads up against the drum. figured id turn them the other way....no dice. they wont budge. im afraid to mess up the stars. cant get the damn thing off. yes i tried WD40. any suggestions?

if you turned it one way, it should go back the other way. I wouldn't spray anything in there if the shoes are good.
You probably aren't doing it at the right angle. Try a flashlight?
Don't worry about messing up the stars. There are loads of used ones around. |

"PB" does not mean peanut butter...
Or... just go ahead and mess them up. Go on, do it. Don't be afraid to tear them up, they are not that hard to find.. nor are they very expensive. |

| I have been in a situation where nothing I could do would get the stars to turn and the parking brake was on for twenty years so the pads were seized to the drums. I rented a big drum puller (I now own one) and yanked everything off. Ruined the shoes, broke the adjusters, broke a spring or two, and slightly bent the backing plate. Oh well. Got good used parts and moved on. |

Done similar to the same process. At some point this makes the best sense. |
