That seems really clean already. Is it going to be completely stock? Or did you post it to this section with a reason ;)...?

I totally understand why you post them, and I'm happy that you do it, don't get me wrong! :D I was only wondering if you are going to modify the engine :)

If you don't mind me asking: What do you glue your case halves together with? I talked to an airplane mechanic recently who claimed to have rebuilt many VW engines. He put a silk thread around the case faces and used Permatex form-a-gasket as glue.

Don, I have heard that some people put a "silk" thread between the case sealing halves. Others use Aviation Permatex while others use Gas-A-Cinch and so on.
I guess use what ever works best for you....

He Uses 3H by Permatex. Its really the only thing to use, when your done sealing the case, clean up the seams lightly with alcohol and it looks very clean.

OK Don. Maybe I misread your question. I use DIRKO made by Elring.
They are the same people that make the flywheel seal(s).

Rick Herity recently suggested Locktite 518 as case glue. I've been using Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket for 20 years and have had some successes and some not so successes so I'm kinda excited to try the 518. Rick tells me it will still bond even if you get some oil on it during assembly and since he started using it he has not had a single leak. Cross your fingers!

Don

BTW professionals have every right to keep some secrets and I will always try to respect that.

Any version seems to be fine for machined surfaces. The racing and aero formulations tend to work well.

Everybody has their favorites for sealing. Mine for decades was the Aviation Form-a-Gasket. Hylomar works better it seems.
