Hi All,
I'm cleaning up the interior of my 1972 Super Beetle, but I have a lot of draft coming thru the dash pad. I think it's because I don't have any of the fresh air or defrost ducts hooked up. Does anybody know where I can find a diagram of how all of this gets hooked up, and where I can find the elbows that go between the fresh air box and the dash vents? Also, and suggestions or recomendations for sealing the front end up would be appreciated :)
thanks :)

Here, 3rd time I've posted this, search the threads for lots more info on this. Without the fan box, ducts and hoses, air coming through your trunk will blow right through the vent openings...like having an open window in front of you! The ducts are available used but you have look, mainly bone yard vendors have them. The hoses come from aftermarket vendors like Mid America, etc. the ducts are very hard to install, but it can be done, you need to remove the glove box on the pass. side. I just spent several hours getting them in place, one tip, you have to remove the top movable vents inside the dash 1st and then insert them back into the ducts after they are in place....

Mine is kind of drafty as well. I removed the air box and adjusted the cables for the doors since they were always open. Now when I rotate the knobs they actually close. It helped, but is still a bit drafty.
I have everything hooked up, but my hood seal is SHOT (I have a new one; just haven't installed yet) and I need to re-do the seal on the airbox itself. I'm confident that once I do those two fixes it'll help tremendously. |

| yeah, after I rebuilt the fan box and put new soft foam on the flappers, when you shut the vents with the fan running, you actual hear it seal up and the air stop! I used a double layer of 2-inch wide stick on foam duct tape from Home Depot HVAC dept. sticks great and soft enough to make a tight seal. Its closed cell and has a smooth skin so it won't leak air like open cell AC filter that is shown in that how to video....now if you can only stop the draft coming through the radio! I have a factory and the air comes right through the push buttons. I have a good trunk seal, but it still leaks...at least I'll aways have some fresh air coming through! But I'm missing a good trunk liner, once that's in place, the air should be minimal. |

@ tele68, thanks for the diagram :) and I'll look around for some of the pieces that I don't have.
@ ANSAracingb, the only part of the fresh air system that I have is the box itself :/ somebody took the whole area under the hood apart so they could mess with the wiring (which is another thing on my to do list) so I can't just close the vents :( I to have a new hood seal coming, and I'll check out the seal for the box itself |

| Tele68 (or anyone who knows), where do you get those exploding diagrams of various Volkswagen parts? I see them posted here all the time, and could use a few right now. Is it available in a book I could buy? |

| Some diagrams will be available in the haynes/service manuals, also some ones can be seen on online stores like cip1, and MAM, to give you ideas on what parts you will need. |

that website is awesome, and its nice of Google to translate the entire thing for those that can't read German. |
