NOW THIS! God, all these colors look amazing. I think I'm going to have to pick numbers out of a hat or something.

I guess it all teeters on my wheel decision. Right now I want to go with stock smoothies and hub caps with white wall tires. But then again I think some new beetle 17" BRM's would look amazing too! And if I do the BRM's, then I'd want the diamond green for sure. But I think that type 2 beige would look good with some black BRM's as well. If I go with a diamond grey or black, I can do the smoothies in red with the white walls.

I'm torn! Any suggestions?

Another paint choice...

A quick update. Making moves with the 1915. The case is at DRD as I'm typing this being decked, cut for 94's and full flowed.

I also decided to go with an FK45 cam and 1.4 rockers versus a 120 and 1.25. It will give me more lift with almost identical duration.

I'll post pics as I get the parts...

I just saw this and man! Pan looks super clean! cant wait to see it finished!

Do you have a link to a build on that car from mean bugs?

Hugo Stiglitz Sun Jun 27, 2010 7:52 pm

I dont, and I don't really remember when I found the pic. It was here on TS though.

It's super clean. I think I'm leaning towards that color. (cream, tan, beige -ish)

So I got bored this weekend and dropped the body onto my pan. This way too, I can move it around and prep it a little easier. Here's some pics:

Did you everr think of doing a 2 tone paint job? Heres a pic of my 63 that i did with spray cans but its a good example of a 2 tone bug!

or check my thread for more pics.......

Went to the swap meet in Pomona today. Got there bright and early! 6:45am

But it paid off, found a 3 tab hood that was in amazing condition! No rust, two minor dents and very very straight. Asked the guy how much he wanted for it...

10 bucks!!! I nearly cried. Here it is on the car real quick...

Found a decklid in good shape as well. Paid $40 for it, still a great deal but finding a hood for $10 kind of spoils you...

I need to do a little work on the spring mount and then weld up some random license plate holes, but all in all I made out today!

Getting closer and closer!

I was stripping my doors today and my neighbor walks over with a buddy of his to check out the progress on the bug. His buddy mentions he's got some carbs for a bug. "I think they're 44's, but I dont know. They were my father in-laws."

I told him I'd be interested cause I haven't done anything for carbs yet, so he ran and grabbed what he had. He comes back with some original Italian IDF's that are in great condition! I ask him how much and he said $200 and they're yours!

Couldn't beat that with a stick.

Well the long block is finished!!

Just picked it up tonight. Here is what the final build is:

Long block assembled by Steve Tims.

New AS41 Case (machined for full flow)
Forged Chromoly CW 69mm crankshaft
DRD 5.4 in. "I" Beam Rods
Mahle Pistons
Engle FK43 Cam
CB Lightweight lifters
Autocraft 1.4 rockers
DRD L5 Heads
12.5 lb. Fly Wheel
Shadek Oil Pump
1.5 qt. deep sump oil pan

As mentioned before, I've got the 44 IDF's and full MSD ignition kit.

Here's some quick spy pictures :D :D

Body is in paint right now! Finally decided on a color. Something very similar to anthracite grey.

Nevermind the ricer, here's the color.

The body is in final stages of work! F*ckin' sandblaster warped almost every panel on the car!

Really getting antsy! Before it was hurry up and wait, now I can't seem to find enough money/time!
