Just obtained my birth certificate for my 57 vert
Couple of questions for you guys and gals out there.
#1 Color my chassis is 1 551 451
151, Vw Convertible, four seater
30 din-ps 1.2 liter
Colour L 329 Shetland grey
Built on 6 June 1957 left factory on 18 June 1957
Destination Canada
options are M067 77 Ah battery, 6 volt
M 350 US-equipment (find enclosed)
M918 Cannot be identified. (Convertible leatherette option type 151)
Sooooooooooooo first off, L329 Shetland Grey, But under the paint is like a baby blue everywhere Totally looks like orig paint, So im a little confused on that. Could they be wrong??????
#2 On the backside of my birth certy they Give me a page of M350 options
M350: US-equipment
Seatbelts in front
Mph speedometer
Two locking doors
Sealed beam headlamps
Hazard waring system
Without flasher
Laminated windscreen
Ram protection
Reversing light
Drum brake
Dual circuit brake system
then under all that is says
"the equipment on this sheet shows only possible US arrangements which can varry from vehicle and model year. We ask for your attention please."
Does that mean these could have been on the car they don't know?
Or that they were?
Sooooooooo confused
Sounds like the M350 could have been any of the above items if they were installed.
Whatca think?
Here is a few picts of the old girl, Not much left thou.
Top cover Light Grey, upholstery material Blue Grey or Leatherette Red
Does that mean either? They did not know or they just threw in what they had on the line?
You can see in the rear quarter pict how there is baby blue under the grey paint right where the fender attaches, And to answer the common question the vin and pan match and looks to have been never tampered with at all. |

| That M350 configuration is correct for 1967 model year US and Canadian-market Beetles only. |

So its wrong for the 1957 year?
And does that mean still that either all were on the car or any number of those options were there? |

Steveo_32: I always thought Automuseum could be wrong w/ some M codes.. I donīt have any prove: if anyone have at least one please post it!!
For instance -there are only two I get on mind now- my march, 5th of 1957 it supposed to have bumper rubber strips (M162)???. Check out my gal for my BC.
Another one was a OG 1956 with a Petri steering wheel w/ the "correct P" on behind fitted in a never touched car (of course, the design of the steering wheel is exactly the same of any other Oval s. wheel, except the material.. a bit "softer") BTW.. the BC didnīt notice about that, at least Petri as OG part(s) supplier.
Not to hijack your thread (and not sure `bout your case) but, do anyone trust at all on BC`s? Maybe itīs a good starting point to solve the most M codes presumed inconsistences.
Greetings!

Okay, I kinda understand the M350 thing, As I take it a generic standard North American package.
What I wonder about is the "Drum Brake option" rather than......Disc? Cable?
No brakes?
And dual circuit? Whats with that option as well, if anyone knows
Just curious, Cheers |

I personally think BCs are a waste of cash. If you have an all original car or something with a rare or strange option a BC is great to verify. But since they have been known to be incorrect MANY times or just dont give much info.
Here is mine.
I knew it was an october build already. I needed a delivery destination and color which BOTH were not specified.
I havent heard of them giving money back lately for unreadable films. I think they guess on what you had and give it some random mcodes. If you dispute the BC and supply them with evidence to the contrary they will add it to your BC and send you a corrected BC free of charge.
I have the dual circuit mcode too. I wonder if the dual circuit and larger reflector codes combined just equal snowflakes. |

| I recently had my money returned and email to say the film was unreadable - so they still do it. |
