No serious rust under the gas tank or under the spare area. Didn't get around to figuring out how to get the wiper fluid tank off.

It just pop's out, just wiggle it and it will come out. Looks good!

Look up under the apron near the front beam, you can see the little nubs that stick through the sheetmetal...just pop them out like Shano63 said

Day 3

Not much to report or show. Just that I got the body off.

Just a couple of jack stands and lowered the chassis - easy! I got all the body bolts off without breaking a one!

This is where the body will sit under a tarp until I finish with the bottom half.

I know some of you suggested that I just clean it up a little and just drive it as it is but I really wanted to clean this up nice. I guess my mentioning "little possible cost" drew out those natural responses.

So far, taking it apart has cost me:

$25 for a huge tarp
$3 for a can of PB Blaster
$3 for a couple pairs of work gloves
$8 on a couple 4x6 boards and
$8 for nuts and bolts for building the raised platform

I found a deal on an engine stand AND an engine hoist for $120. Do I need a hoist? I can just get the stand for $30 but I figured reselling both could turn a profit.

Now I've got to get a REAL job so I can afford parts and paint.

Engine hoists are handy things to have but they do take up space. As to whether you need one for this project, no.
Stands are great. Mine's got a damn FE Ford block stuck on it.

Looks good so far- not too terrible rustwise either. Appears you've thought it out well. I like that you've incorporated the house into your body rack!

Big pluses for not spraying money at it willy-nilly, too. Efficient.

Okay, so I never really looked at the engine number until I pulled it off.

It's a 1300cc ! And I read online that it's difficult to find parts for this motor since it was a one year only. I've also read that I can make it a 1600cc.

Where can I find more detailed info on what I can do with this engine? Hopefully I'll find that it is a good working one and I won't have to do too much to it.

I know right? I need to update my progress too. Funny, I have a similar situation ... lost my garage space. I just bought myself a newer, more reliable car and I needed to shelter it so, the Bug is around back and the Chassis is in the garage.

But I did get floor pans in from Westburg West and they look like they fit perfectly. Got a Lincoln Mig welder 145 from CraigsList for $150 and will try welding the floor pans in soon.

Working on it will be a bot of a cahallenge now that I have lost the garage. But I'n gonna pour a concrete slab behind the house so I can work back there.

A fellow bug lovin' friend came by today and it got me excited to work on it again. So I just drilled holes in the new floorpan. waiting for a welding helmet and I'll start getting the new pans in!
