I have searched the forums and google'd this, and I can't seem to make sense of this ID number on this motor. No mistake, this is what's stamped on the motor at the pad where the generator mounts up to.
CTM 23119
It is a 1972 VW Convertible. I was told the engine was rebuilt about a year ago. I am trying to figure out what size motor this is, but can't make tell much from the numbers. Looks like a typical 1600, but how can I confirm??
Thanks in advance! |

| Not finding those numbers either but regardless they will not tell you what size engine it is. 1600cc to over 2 liters can all be built out of the same case with the right machining. For that you will have to measure the pistons, know the length of the rods and stroke of the crank. All those will determine the displacement of the engine. Did the PO give you any paperwork or info on the engine? |

definately not a factory number
probably one of those new cases that dont come with an engine number stamped on and the builder has probably stamped their own number on to it
CTM is probably a clue who too |

| One thing you can do is pull off one of the heads and measure the bore and piston stroke in mm and that will definitly tell you what size motor you have. |
