so i'm pretty positive i wanna do a coil-over setup all the way around the baja.
i'll be getting the warrior(latest rage) coil-over beam, is there any modifications i need to do to the rear (swing-axle) to use coil overs?
also, does using coil-overs completely cut out the leaf springs in the front and the tortion bars in the rear? |

convert the rear to IRS if you want to run coil overs....
andyes, the torsions come out front and back. |

Why, the 6 or 7 inches of travel you get with a swingaxle is hardly worth the cost of true coilover shocks and the fab required for shock mounts. Buy some KYB's and run it. |

i'd like to keep the swing-axle because i cannot afford to buy the parts needed to convert to irs nor the irs transmission. i CAN afford to buy coil-overs and have the means to fab the mounts.
also, they will eliminate the tortion bars, something i'd need to replace if i kept the normal suspension. it would be cheaper for me to buy the coil-overs and eliminate the tortion bars than to buy new tortion bars and shocks. |

coilovers on a swing axle would be a complete waste of money and time IMO ...Its just pointless :!: |

| this " cheaper" you speak of is a little backwards... irs converson is cheaper if you go stock langth then any coil over set up out there... if you want cheap just do what they said above and get new tortion bars a set of bus kyb"s and run it,,, thats as cheap as it gets. |

| asking these types of questions doesn't show to me you have the means for making rear shock mounts... |

| yeah...... if you cant afford to convert your car to IRS then there is no way you will ever cover the cost of going to coil overs. |

| i agree with you guys, if i were to go with the top of the line coil-overs it would be pointless on a swingaxle and more expensive. i take it the lower-end ones cannot be used as a stand-alone suspension? |

| if you are talking about the top picture then no they !Do Not! work as a stand alone set up... nor do they work for any sort of off road set up. they are junk. by no means are these real coilovers! |

You could go with something like these Marvin Shaw coilovers. I had them on a sandrail once, however i'm not too sure about spring availability for them, like i said, I have only ever seen them on a sandrail. It's still a waste of Money in my oppinion. I have a good set of type 181 thing torsion bars(24.5mm) I'll sell you on the cheap. That and a good set of shocks would get you some lift without the preload on your torsions and stiffen up your ride abit. These marvin shaw's are on C/L for $500.00
