View original topic: Jamar Park Lock, what fittings??
KooK Sat Mar 20, 2010 7:53 am

I just got a Jamar Park Lock and from what I can tell I'm going to have to cut my brake line and bubble flare it (it's hard to see). However I'm here trying to figure out what brake fittings go into it and I'm at a loss. If I use a Metric fitting I can only get 2-2.5 threads in, if I use a standard I can only get 3 threads in until the thing just stops.

Is this some sort of British, Japanese, Korean hybrid fitting? I'd like to get this done before the weekend or I'd be calling Jamar or CBPerf.

Thanks.

There are different bubble flares.
Euro Standard, Asian standard, and American standard.
You have to know which one.

Wait wait wait, you're talking about the threads right? As far as the flare itself I had always assumed it was just "bubble flare" and there were British threads, Asian threads, and American threads. Although normally when we're talking about british threads I generally only see those with npt fittings, didn't realize it applied to brake fittings as well

Bring it down to the house, and we can figure it out if needed.
I am south of Norwalk.

I dont know the answer but it sounds like my steering brake. I think it came with pipe thread compression fittings which i didn't feel were correct even though they would fit and seal. ( the first time i installed a steering brake this is what i used and and they worked but i could tell that the fittings were not correct and mangled the threads) i brought it to my local hose shop (hydrolic fittings for tractors etc..) and they set me up. It took them a several minutes to figure out the correct thread, flare , fitting. brake parts really should come with written specs.

Oh heck, I didn't even see where you were located. Is this a shop, in the phone book?

Dirtkeeper - Yeah, this is my first Jamar product, I'm finding out they're kind of an odd thing, no comment yet on the quality but from the outside it looks good.

I am retired, but work out of my house to suppliment my SS. I am in a rural area.
PM me, and I will give you my phone number.

Some of those kind of aftermarket parts like the high end brake kits and the park locs are simply 1/8 pipe threads so that adapters can be used to match up to whatever is needed.

well the thing is thats how i did my first steering brake,,, I think it was 1/4 pipe thread and it worked but when i got my new one and i showed it too the hydrolic hose guys cause i needed a sharp 90 cause of tight clearance with my seats. ... anyway they told me it was a No No to use pipe thread in a brake system and that it really doesn't give the proper tightening on a flare fitting... and the thread on the steering brake wasn't a pipe thread even though a pipe thread would go on and get tight. That said my first installation worked for about 50K miles

The pipe thread is not on a flare fitting! You do not mix pipe threads and flares or flares with other types of flares.

The 1/8 NPT is what came on my CNC reservoirs and residual valves. You are supposed to use 1/8 NPT to whatever connection you need, International System flare(metric), SAE flare or, AN flare fittings, Also, some Are a double flare and some are a single flare and they are different angles.
In my case I used 1/8 NPT to -3 AN all around for my brakes and hydraulic clutch.
