We now have concrete plans for this bus. Since a PO put the shore plug in and so nicely wired two sets of plugs into the ashtray holes and also installed a camper vent on top (which we replaced since the old one was brittle and cracking), we have decided to sell our Dutchmen Pop Up and outfit the Bay as a camper.
We will not be altering the interior other than adding lighting, but will be converting it by way of getting a drive-off tent, portable AC unit, cube fridge, inflatable mattress with sleeping bags and any other usual camping items.
Selling our existing camper will finance this project, but after looking at many of the photos here and looking at simplifying how we camp, I think we will be much happier!
Any ideas, help, or thoughts?
Hey.... this is Kelli (black bus at Circle Yer Wagons) we have the 67 splitty and the one in the avatar... did we not meet? YEAH! If this is you. You did it you got a bus! If I can help hit me up. If this is not you hi anyway and congrats on your bus. |

Hi! I think I remember! I know I DO remember the black bus! LOL!
Yep! Hubby found him a bus! And I love it!
In fact, we picked up a few parts for it at CYW. He just wasn't entirely sure which direction he wanted to go. I'd love to have it camp-ready and take both bus and bug up to the fall CYW and camp along the river with the rest of the buses!!! |

I remember you guys. Yes, I am the outcast. The girl with the "black" bus...HA! That would be awesome. Hope you get it ready in time. I will say I don't think we have been home one weekend yet. Camping all year round now. Work is gettin in the way lol.
Anyhoo...you for sure will want the drive away tent...since you have a transporter. We have two tents. I will say the canvas circus tent is a heavy bitch. But the white stag tent I picked up is much lighter. I like it better because it has bigger windows. It works pretty good with both of our busses. Easy to put up also.
My husband can't build em as fast as I drag shit home...:) OH well! Now our problem is do we take his bus or mine! Never thought we would be fighting over that!
I have lots of stuff laying around I will watch your progress if I have something you may want I will pm ya.... Happy Camping! |

Cool! There are some odd parts that we'll be needing!
Hubby read your post and he said he feels your hubby's pain. I'm always finding some kind of VW "treasure" for adding to what we have! Whether we can use it or not!
He blames me for giving him "this damn Volkswagen disease and shit"... and then I remind him he was driving a 73 Super when I met him!
I'm looking at a few different tents, so when we get to that point, I know what would work out best for us. The stag tent sounds right up our alley. We will have to get together and do some camping! Where do ya'll go? |

Roof seam sealer? It doesn't have asphalt in it? I've read a bunch of posts that say it isn't a good choice for the smell and the extra weight. Am I thinking of the same stuff? |

Where don't we go would be the better question.. :) We are heading to NC this weekend for BrewBus. The weekend after up to the National Park which is just in our back yard. We just got back from Virginia...600 miles round trip. Took the Blue Ridge Parkway the whole way up and back. It was beautiful. We had like 6 busses with us. We had a blast. I will PM you some info that would be awesome. I think you have a lot of our friends maybe close to you...first bus I purchased, I bought then told my husband...lol. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission HA! Check your mail....

YAY! Sold the camper and getting started!!
Ordered glass channels from orange bus Bob. Got a list of parts and hubby is headed to Whitey's in Hendersonville to get brake parts and an empi glass pack header set.
Got to install carb, fuel pump, pulley and gen on the motor. Clean and paint the tins, and lube motor and fill tranny with gear oil.
Still got to get a master cylinder (might have a line on one) and both reservoirs. The top tiny one that is up front in the nose's neck broke off - it was very brittle. Since they're not readily available - may get a flask and drill into the bottom and add a fitting.
A few things on the list:
2 axles
motor and tranny mounts
front skid plate
right turnsignal assembly (the one on the bus is badly cracked)
Wiper arms (the ones we have just can't be right)
drop spindles
new tires
wires
coil
plugs
belt
throttle and clutch cable
brake tubing that goes front reservoir to reservoir on top of master cylinder
A couple of things to look into:
the driver's seat will not move forward
the gas pedal assembly is completely rusted apart and mostly missing - this is a biggie - hard to tell what goes where and how it sets up - literally just a hole in the floor.
So excited!!!!! \:D/ |

We're in Spartanburg. No power windows! The glass was missing the channel that connects the glass itself to the regulator. A PO in the past somewhere took strips of wood, taped them together and used them to prop up the glass. So nice! |
