I want to confirm wiring color for a US 65 bug front parking lights in the headlamp buckets.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/bug_62.jpg

1. Do I see a RED ground wire in this schema? M3/M4

2. Does that ground wire route to the 3 pronged headlamp connector?

3. Is that a GREY voltage supply wire?

Thanks!

The red wire connected terminal 30 is the supply wire coming from the rear of the car. It leaves the battery goes to the starter, then the generator, then the switch. THIS WIRE IS UNFUSED, from the factory. The DASHED gray wire that goes to M3/M4 is NOT fused (good idea to add one yourself)and is the output wire of the switch. The dashed brown wire is the ground and is connected to the headlight ground wire.

Thanks, so what I had interpreted as RED, is BROWN. I now see that color difference via this site:

Where I had thought the dashed wires were tracer wires, my big blue book calls this out as being US wiring variations. I'll make the leap of faith that the color (grey or brown) is a solid colored wire.

Its a good leap. I personally have never seen a VW in that year with factory `tracer wire`; only solid colors. I think with the dashed wires they were trying to show it was optional, on other wiring digrams I`ve seen wires for the radios that are dashed and I belive all radios were optional in the Beetles.

I'll continue this post, rather than start another since it's related.

Re: the parking light schema, the parking light feed from the headlight switch to the bulbs originates from terminal 57.

Are both parking light wires crimped into the same SINGLE spade connector on an unmolested harness at the switch?

My switch appears to have been changed over the years and DOES have two switched terminals (non marked) that would allow separate connections and feeds to the two parking lamps. They extinguish the parking lamps when headlamps are activated. I'm staying factory baby.

Trivial detail, I know....but that's how I roll.

My parking light wires each have terminals that look to be factory. They are currently connected to the same place as the rear parking lights ( there is enogh wire for them to reach the switch). The switch does have 2 terminals but only 1 looks to labeled 57. My battery is disconnected and the engine compartment wirring is hanging out of the car so I can`t confirm how the terminals are wired right now. I believe they may have used a little metal piggyback connector to allow both female connectors to attach to the single male terminal 57.
