View original topic: Distributor not going all the way in

I pulled old distrib out and putting new one in. I pull some motor oil on the shaft and new o-ring. The shaft has about an 1/8" left to be seated. I know to tap the edge while turning the roter. It feels like it comes to the notch but won't slide in. Will it hurt to tap "harder"? I pulled the distrib out to make sure the spring wasn't stuck, I can push the spring down so I don't think thats bothering it. Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Are you sure you have the small side lined up with the small side of dist. drive. Between that and wiggle the rotor it should go in. Jeff

I agree sounds like you just don't have the slotted dog gear lined up with the drive shaft in the engine.

The small side? I'm not sure because it didn't look like the dog gear were different sizes

ok i just looked at the old one and was able to tell the difference.. Thanks guys for pointing that out.. That sucks because that means the PO was way off of timing.. Its pointing the #2 where his was pointing to number #1

Is one of them a 009? They are supposed to be 90º out of phase from a SVDA so that is actually OK.

It is a 009... thankyou for the help!! We got it in.
