Ok, so my starter has def given up the ghost. Its an automatic starter and has a special solenoid. I checked the starter by taking it apart and Im pretty sure its the solenoid. Im trying to understand how this works but Im thinking that the solenoid actual sends power to the starter motor which is why it wont turn. Does this sound right?

As I understand it, the solenoid does two jobs.
1. It acts like a big relay and switches the high starting current from the battery to the starter when you turn the key.
2. It pushes the little gear on the starter into and meshes with the large gear on the engine.
When you release the key from the start position, the gear returns to its resting position and the current is disconnected from the starter motor.

If I missed something someone please chime in.
