View original topic: Problem with Decklid standoffs??
seanboy69 Sat Mar 20, 2010 4:40 pm

After I put them on I tried to close the decklid and the lid itself was hitting the bumper???

So I scribed a tamplate on the bumper an cut it out so the decklid will open an close. This is a old crappy bumper an I have to get a new one next year when I get the car repainted. BUT I dont want to have to cut the new one????

how much more room did you need to clear the bumper?

The bumper bracket mounting holes are slotted so they do have a little play. You may need to loosen the mounting bolts (the ones inside the rear fender area) and see if you can pull the bumper out a little.

If that doesn't give you enough room, you could possibly take a dremel and make the slots just a little bit longer. Or you could possibly add a spacer behind the bumper blade to make it stick out just a tad bit furter.

If you have stand-offs, then you don't really have to worry about the decklid gaps being even since the decklid isn't flush on the car. Possibly you could adjust the decklid mounts a little bit as well.

I have ran into this problem before.
You can slot the holes in your bumper brackets more, so you can move the bumper back a bit.

Cool, that is what I will do with the next bumper. I am going to replace both the bumpers an put new brackets on as well. But I will notch the reat brackets. I think I only needed half an inch or so.

If you need more cooling, consider propping the lid from the bottom. There are a few vendors that sell some pretty slick lower hood standoff's or you could go low buck like Glen Ring and use a tennis ball

Another option would be to use a vert lid with vents in it.

If you want to use standoffs because you like the look, I can't help you with that.
