I've had my beachbuggy motor apart this weekend to fit new tins and generally clean it up for the New Zealand VW nationals an a couple of weeks time and have a question about the inlet manifold. I would expect gaskets both at the head end of the manifold and also between the carburettor and the inlet manifold - is this correct? None of the workshop manuals I have show this or even mention it.
Also, I have been looking for a down-loadable parts catalogue for the 1500 single port motor and haven;t been able to find one - is there one here somewhere? |

Hiya wired,
Yes, there are gaskets at each end of the intake manifold AND a gasket between the intake manifold and the carburetor.
The gasket between the intake manifold and the head is actually a metal ring made to be compressed by the torque applied to the intake manifold.
Take a look.............
The gasket between the carburetor and intake manifold is made from lightweight fibreboard (think cardboard or tagstock). |

Thanks Bookwus, I see them now and have pried them out. I thought is was odd that they didn't seem to have any.
I've been tidying up my engine on my recently restored beach buggy and have fitted 36HP tins which don't have the heater vents and look cleaner. My motor was leaking from the main seal and two push rod tubes each side so I have replaced the main seal and fitted a set of springloaded tubes so hopefully I have it all sealed up now. I have also given the motor a proper clean and got about ten year's worth of oil and dirt off it.
If I can figure out how to post a picture I'll put some up :)
Seems to work :) |
