That's what I thought, bigbore. I have a 16" file that I bought to dress the exhaust to head joint on my heat exchangers. I am the King of the flat bastard. I can take my time and make it perfect. I'll post results.

I shall remain forever in your debt.

My files are some of my most coveted tools I have a drawer in my tool box just for them. I have had younger mech watch me pull out one of those big files and go to work and thay just can't beleave what I can fix with one. heres one of my grandpa's file's I have in my drawer it's a ripper.

Surfaced the nosecone and called Rick Long for the parts. He persuaded me to get the steel plate.

Figured out what was happening on the nosecone seal and bushing. Yes I was sold the wrong part. The bushing with seal is longer than the original and has a knife edge on the nosecone side. The original inside bushing is the longer one. So when I drove the new longer seal side in, it jammed it's knife edge outside of the longer inside bushing and jammed the hockey stick so tight I really had to drive it to get it out. The inside bushing was a bitch to get out too.

Just a minor curve in the road. Gives me a chance to get a few details done now while waiting for the nosecone parts.

Thanks bigbore- You communicated all your help very clearly, and I really appreciate it. You too Kent.

Yep those plate are good like I said for the street not as much of a need for it but thay do fix the bearing pounding thing. Iam building a mostly all new late 002 for my 71 westy I plan on having a very long time and putting a 1776 in it so I think I will be putting a plate in it. I also put a 091 nose cone on this 002 trany. The 091 has little bearings in it for the hockey stick and thay pretty much don't ware out like the bushings and smooother on the shifting. You can't put those little bearing in a 002 nose cone thay will not fit.

bigbore - did you find a new 091 nosecone or just remanufacture a used one?

Just a used one and its my last spare at this time. I have to send 2 nose cone's out to be wacked off for steel plates to Weddle and 2 gear carryer housing for them to rebuild. Iam building a 091 for a customer that is putting a 2.7L 911 engine in a 69 westy and then the one for my trany. I have a heap of 002 tranys and just 1 091 left around here to build. Thay seen to be harder to come by up here.

Got the bearing plate from Rick at Longs (this cat was really helpful, buy your trans-axle stuff from him). The install was easy. Just a pisser to have to pull the motor back out to do it. However, now I could do it in my sleep.

Thanks again to Bigbore and SGKent. You guys are alright. I don't care what everybody says.
