View original topic: Early Bay Fuel Gauge Differences

I have about 5 early bay gauges and all but one are like the one on the bottom. The one on the top looks the same except for the little pin (arrow points to it) that the needle rests on when off. Is this a one year only gauge? Any idea why this is different?

Later Bays had black faces for their gauges.

Thanks. I realize there are differences throughout the years (gray/black face) but I am asking about the early gauges only (gray face) like the picture above.

I think the reason he said that Caleb is because the top one looks to have a black face while the bottom one looks to be grey. It appears in the photo like you have an early gauge and a later one there.

My bad. I took the picture quickly and the lighting was not the best. Both are gray face gauges but the top one had the little pin to hold the needle. I haven't seen many like this and was wondering if this might be a one year thing or a replacement part. Thanks for the clarification Brian.

There will always be little variations in parts manufactured as nos by the same manufacture that made the oem parts when the vehicle was new. I think that if you dont get a part made with in the first two years after a vehicle is made there will always be these little differances.

On top of that if the manufacture changes subcontractors-the new contractor will then have eithor old or slightly newer molds-tolerances running the risk of a updated pat being made to old specs.

If it was black face it would have red in the R area.

I'll look at some busses today Caleb, I suspect it's an early 68 only thing.

That is what I was thinking. Or possibly a later one year thing, such as a '73 or something.
