ok.....i have a 3:88 rp with redux boxes in my 58 and im happy with it......im going to drop my single cab and im going to put straight axles in it ,would installing a 3:88 in the bug trans thats going in the sc be to much since im going to already be losing the redux boxes? i want to be able to cruise at 80 like my kombi and keeping the rpms low. should i go with the 3:88?

no first hand knowledge but remember when I was deciding to go IRS or Swing in the old forum searchin' that everyone said not to.. your losing 30% underdrive with those redux boxes..

I had IRS with a Beetle GT box in my '65, this has the 3.88 final drive. It would cruise at 80 no problem with about 3500 rpm on the clock as I recall (although that was a few years ago now - so my memory may be failing me). I also fitted a GT box to my last Ghia as I was travelling a lot of miles (it was a daily driver). In my opinion its a good step to go in of you dont want to pay out the cash for a 'built' box.

As a question what engine you running in the sc?

im going to have a 1776 in the sc. yeah thats what i thought about putting a 3:88 w/o redux.

thanks!

np but when i had rancho build the tranny that what they recomended was the 3.88 to do exactly what you were asking

thats what i thought...i think this clown thought i wanted to drive 55 in the slow lane....i want to drive like a bat outa hell!

i mean i may be wrong but i dont think so if thats what rancho said to put in ... and i told them what i wanted to do and to just tell me what i needed
