Has this happened to you?

While in a supermarket parking lot an employee collecting carts asks, "Is that thing electric?"

What? I'm confused. The engine is idling because that keeps the baby happy (only done on rare short errands, such as when we leave the from-scratch Easter scalloped potatoes on the kitchen counter at home and have to buy instant on the way to grandma's).

He points to the utility outlets on the side.

"Oh. No, it's a camper. That's the vent for the fridge and connectors for the sink and electric."

Suddenly I feel both old and remarkably privileged. Actually, I feel privileged every time I get behind this wheel.

It beats the "Do you want to sell question?"

(My standard answer is always $10K to $20K more than it would cost me to do it over again. I like to see the response I get. Who knows, someday I may get lucky!)

Stopped in a campground in the southern US last spring, popped the top and set up camp.

3 'good ol boys' wandered over and asked about the tent on top! "Never seen anything like that", they said, "You build it?"..

"Nope," I replied, "it's original. Even the engine under the bed is original"."

That nearly blew their mind.
