| I know 914-6's exist, but I have found a 914-S. What is the difference. The "S" has mild flares in rear fenders, 911 suspension, Fuchs, 914-S badge, 6 cylinder with triple carbs. Will add pics later. I dont know vin. If it starts with 47 its type 4 engine if it 914 i believe to be an original 6. |

There's no such thing as a 914-S. Likely you have a custom badge on a 914-6.
All 914s came with 911 front suspension. |

A 914 "S" is the first 1000 73 VIN's as those had the vinyl on the windshield surround, fully loaded cars option wise, and were mostly 2.0L fours. None were 6's. No 6 cylinder cars were made in 73.
All 914 fours have a similar to 911 front suspension but take different Tbars, different 411 front disc and caliper etc. BUT a 911 front suspension will bolt right in (thats what I have with vented discs, large Carrera calipers etc.) |

Well I looked at the 914-S again.
Build Date- 1/70
Vin #9140430278
Doesn't this make it the #278 914 "6" built in Jan. 1970. The badges are authentic 914-S as far as I can see. Someone had to be awfully skilled to cut a 914-6 badge into this 914-S.

It looks to me like the bottom 'end' of the 'S' is rounded, whereas all the other ends on all the characters are squared off. I would expect all the ends of the characters on a factory badge to be consistent.

Looks like you found yourself a 1970 914-6 there. Very nice find. Now restore it and have yourself a very unique and valuable car.
Enjoy!!! 8) |

Its a "unknown" vin as far as I can research... Looks fairly rusty but worth $5000-10000 depending on condition.
does the motor run? spin? interior complete? rust issues at the longs/battery tray?
looks like the rear fenders were pulled some....
has the correct squared off rear bumper which is really hard to find. |

Actually the 1973 MY 914 2L models were marketed as "914 S" for much longer than the first 1000 built, although those were certainly included in that marketing campaign.
The 1973 MY was marketed by Porsche+Audi as "The Super Porsche" "914 S" in the USA & Canada only from Summer 1972 through about Jan.1973 (along the lines of their "The __blank__ Porsche" ad series), when Porsche KG had them stop.
You can read up more on it & see some ads & sales brochures etc. for the "914 S" here:

You'll note at the link above that somebody posted the same 914-6 with the rear badge dremeled into an "S" on here too. Glad you got the 914-6, which you will/are/have hopefully returned to proper 914-6 engine, fitment & badge - given their high value & collectability! :D |
