just reading wikipedia(not always right)
but thought i might ask
Quote: The Type 4's battery was located under the driver's seat. In the rear of the car was located a gasoline-operated heater (an Eberspächer BA4) that was fired by a glow plug accessible from a hidden rear window deck plate. |

Yes, pretty much everything that came to this contient had a stnadrad heat exchanger system that will keep you warm down to about say...40-45F. They also had the gasoline furnace that I generally find is required for anything below 40F unless you are moving at highway speeds.
In the colder areas of Europe there was also a supplemental gasoline furnace that fit in the front trunk and was primarily to help defrost the front window and keep more heat up front. Never seen one of those on this continent. In all areas except maybe the rocky mountains...the BN4 is more than adequate. Ray |

The standard gas heater mounted an almost all Type 4's was the "flat" type BA4 mounted above the gear box.
If memory serves Canada was the country which had the front trunk mounted heater, have never seen one of them myself.

Yes, I had a canadian 71 that I parted that had the extra gas heater. It looks just like the one in the trunk of a 72 super a friend of mine parted, except for the ducting and exhaust. It also had the rear one above the tranny of course.

| The 411s and 412s built and sold in South African between 1969 and 1974 never had gas heaters, it was not even an available option (perhaps it doesn't get cold enough here?) |
