Hey guy's

Kris is the name
I'm from belgium
Just bought my first VW aircooled
Also own a MK1 1982 wich i'm turning into G60 engine and a daily audi a4 B7 avant on bag's

Bought a 411 LE & 412 toghetter
sold the 412 and will be putting the 411 on the road soon for the event off the year in belgium---> VAG fest
The 411LE is from 1970 and run's a 1.7 injection
Some pictures how i found them

the 411's engine didn't work,so after some searching we found a contact under the dash that failed, repaired and the engine turns well
Gave him a better front bumper,a quick wash and this is where we are now

Still have to fix the brakes, new battery clamps and he's ready to drive to technical controle (obligated here in belgium)
once passed he will be lowered on wheels
by time it will be a body off restoration
Best greetings
Kris

God how I envy you Euro's. Myself, I'd have kept the 412 2 door. Had one (same color): want one again bad. Hey guy's. Can anyone elaborate on the American industrial designer Brooks Stevens role in the design of the type 4? If my feeble memory serves correctly, it was he that transformed the 411 into the 412. If so, I wonder if at the behest of VW of America or the home office.

Finding nice 412 2dr.'s is hard, basketcases are relatively easy to find! People kept them around because they were so unusual, though may not have known what to do with them, but they knew to not just discard them. What kind of shape are you looking for one in? I have too many.

I had not heard about Brooks Stevens having a role in the 412 design, but that's interesting.

Welcome to the forum Kris. Your 411 cleaned up really nice! It will represent well at VAG fest.

Are the front turn lenses the clear Italian versions (or just faded bad)? Note that your rear view mirror is not 411 (maybe Type 3?).

This has been debated before, he may have played a role, please read:

Many also did not discard a 411 or 412...because they were expensive back in the day. In this country, the delivered price of a 411 or 412 was between $3800 and $4200. In the early 1970's...you could buy a Lincoln or Cadillac for that price. Ray

Nice chrome accesoire on the 411 motor hood :D

You did already a great job by washing / cleaning the car :D

What are the further plans?

the mirror is from a beetle (and fits maybe also on other models)
But that's no problem for now, you find them here and there

The 411 is looking good. Are those sport wheels I see on it? They look great, I have a set of them on my 412.

Ibiz@ke Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:42 am

didn't even know they are sportwheels
i'm pretty sure i will learn a lot inhere
sorry for the spellingfaults also

because i already have 2 other cars i couldn't held the 412,didn't had the space

ubercrap (mister?),
I have to do something with my 914 first (like maybe get it running so I can sell it? There's a plan). Of course the first criteria would be NO rust. Certainly nothing structural. I note that you have a few type 4's in stock. What's the long term affect of that Georgian humidity? My '73 was in pristine condition when I bought it in '83: three years later it was fast decomposing into iron oxide. I see the photographs of our new friend Ibizs' cars and they are NOT rusty. Belgium is at about the same longitude as the southern portions of Canada. Surely they have the same long winters and yet, NO RUST.

So what do you have? I'm much interested.

These cars do rust quite easily as you know, unfortunately. I have a beautiful mostly completed restoration project I bought, that isn't going anywhere! The other two doors, I don't think sound like something you would be interested in... I have two very dry cars, but they have moderate to severe accident damage. One might be able to be used to fix the other, but it would be a lot of work. The other car is straight and and mostly complete and original, but has moderate rust, does not run currently but could run again easily. Check the classifieds- there's one up in Michigan that sounds like it might be a better choice. My guess is that Ibiz's finds were not sitting outside very long. Nice 411 after some cleanup.

he does have some rust
the bottem floor needs some attention, but it's not that i can say he's totalled..it's a good base for a restauration, once my MK1 G60 project is finished the 411 will get full attention
Like mentioned above, the 411 was stored in a old barn

Got up early this morning to continue the workz
some picca'z

before

better rear bumper

quick paint job just so it's a little bit cleaned up

Result

Father in law fixing the last electrical problems
(he used to work at aircooled bug's when he was younger,so he's verry enthousiast and with working on the 411 we have some quality time between son in law and father in law)

And...... GO
