Thanks Joey, I've still got lots to do before I get her on the road.
Yesterday I started to get ready to take out the fuel tank to fix the fuel leak and gas smell that I've had since I got her.

I also test fit the new BBS 17X7.5 et35 wheels on. I'm running a set of Michelin 225/50R17 with max load of 1653 @ 50 PSI. These were the heaviest tire I could find and are real close to the stock height tires. I hope they aren't too much for the little 1600.

Got the motor out with my wife's help and removed the firewall. I found some remnants of squirells and one vapour line was disconected. I don't have a picture as the camera battery went dead. I'll get photos today.
Today's job is to get the straps off the tank. I soaked them overnight so hopefully they come off easy. More to follow!

Motor out. Looks like I need to fix a few leaks.

This is how I found the vapour lines once the firewall was removed. Possibly knocked off by a squirrel.

Straps came off without much trouble. soaking them really helped.

Notice the "small" hole in the filler neck. Wonder where the gas leak and smell was coming from.

Treasures found in the tank when I removed it. A piece of abs pipe and the guts from a locking gas cap.

The tank looked great. Haven't checked inside yet other than dumping out the treasures. I plan on cleaning and painting where the tank goes. Has anyone put anything under the tank and straps to stop the two metals rubbing together? I thought about putting either foam weathersripping or possibly some sound deadening product. I had to order the lower hose that attaches the filler neck to the tank. Hope it gets here soon. I'm also waiting for all my door seals to arrive. They didn't make it here before Canada Post employees were locked out.

Door seals arrived and are now installed. New pop top seals are installed. Not sure if the flat seal is sitting correctly.

Ran a new fuel line and moved the filter aoutside of the engine compartment.

Installed new H4 head lights and all new lenses in all lights. I had to modify the new tail lights for the side marker lights wiring.

The motor fired right up after I realized I forgot to hook up the trigger wire to the coil. I still have to check the valve clearance and change the oil. Hoping to have the Westy on the road this week. My wife and I are planning to go to Peggy's Cove with the Vintage V-Dubbers this weekend.

Why do you say that? If it from that picture, that is just showing where the new fuel line is running. All of the tinwork is back on the engine and the foam seal is in place. ( I wouldn't run it without it). I just need to do a once over on everything before it goes on the road.
