First, I have a Type IV in by woods buggy and I've read here or somewhere else that you can change the altenator to a Chevy. Any idea which one.
Also, the dip stick. I cannot seal the dip stick input area at all. it leaks, any help? |

I do not know the part # but it is the motorola alternator. Some of teh motorola styles from 80's and early 90's golfs use the same chassis size, pivot point angels etc....as the Bosch. Bear in mind that the stock type 4 alternator (Bosch) blows cooling air from behind from the shroud...venting into the engine compartment. The Motorolas have the fan on the pulley and IIRC....they pull air from inside and push out...so the pulley has a fan on it and is thicker.
This requires making a spacer for the pivot bolt and for the clampdown bracket to space the alternator more forward away from the belt.
Then you will be going to a different voltage regulator connection because you will generally have on-board regulation in the alternator. Usually a single hot wire and ground.
I will be going this same route in the fall with mine so I am interested also.
If you look in the brown haynes rabbit golf manual...the 1970's to 80's version they have very good pictures of the two r three alternators used across that spectrum....which also fit a great many US vehciles. Ray |

| Thanks. Mine is working fine now. But I want to replace it with an altenator that I can find at the local auto parts store. |
