I just bought a 74 914 w/ 18K :D . The car is original paint except one fender(or two) that was touched up years ago and doesn't match well.
This paint color is over 50% clear. It is going to spray very translucent. That being said it is going to be imperitive to get the right color base or primer.
Does anyone know what base or primer was used at factory?
Is this an acrylic enamel? |

| I have seen a few nice examples of Delphi Green metallic but don't know what the primer is that Karmann used other than its grey.. and the cars were dipped in the electrostatic primer vats. |

I think I might have the base color figured out. While cleaning the drivers door jam I noticed the standard VW paint sticker. It says:
TWO STAGE PAINT
L99A SATURN YELLOW
On the Karmann tag right next to it also says L99A which is DELPHI GREEN.
Saturn Yellow isn't even a metallic paint.
The other piece was a flaw in original paint that revealed a yellow base coat. Will take picture of original paint showing the yellow underneath the Delphi Green. And Delphi Green being a very transluscent paint.
That being said I think Saturn Yellow was the base color for Delphi Green.
Some say they are the same color but they are not.
Oh yeah I got it running I put around 6 more miles on the odometer  . |
