I was just wondering what can you add or do to a ragtop beetle so that it becomes less easily stolen?

Install a shift locking mechinism from Bill and Steve. This will allow you to Lock the trans into reverse and it would look pretty stange to see someone driving a distance this way. It can only be used with the origially shifter. 1-800-258-4VWS.

Also install a "the club" since idiot theives won't necessarily see the shift lock.
Keeping them from breaking in in the first place is a good idea. |

Go see Jakub at Kaminski Auto Salvage. I had a 51 Sunroof and wanted extra security for obvious reasons. Jakub installed/riveted a huge 12ga sheet metal panel completely covering the sunroof opening. Now, my 51 is as secure as a sedan, if not better thanks to the thick gauge sheet metal.

Has anyone looked at the AutoLock? It locks the brake pedal in place. I just don't know it if works on bugs as the arms come up from the floor instead of down from the dash/bulkhead like on most cars.

Does the Autolock hold the brake pedal up to prevent it from being pushed down? Shoot, that won't stop anyone. When I was in college, I drove my bug for weeks using only the Emergency brake, since I didn't have the time/money to fix my leaking braking system.

i got a hold of a roof section and have a hinging flap that lifts out-- its awsome because i can either have a big ole sun roof or put the pins in the hinge and have a metal sunrooflike cover-- best of both worlds

I bought a shift lock from Wolfsburg West. About $50. I think it is well worth it. Also is easy to install and doesn't look bad. Looks like the original accessory offered by VW.

Someone mentioned Bill and Steves, but you can find the lock at most places. Here's one for $80 http://store.cip1.com/Merchant2/merchant.php?Scree...2-06-01-02
