hi y'all.my bug has for the past few months been a bit of a cow when cold and at other times too.
here goes with explaining the problem; to start it's a 1600dp with twin 34ICT's and a 009 dizzy.
engine electrics have been checked and after finding bad condenser both that and CB points renewed.electrics now fine.plugs and leads only 5 months old and look good.
when starting from cold, and it's COLD in blighty at present, she starts but won't idle.i have to keep blipping the throttle.if the revs are kept just above idle, say 1300rpm, then she will stutter and die so have to keep blipping.
when driving off after a minute or so of doin this i can hear the left carb spitting back plus she pops thro the exhaust a bit.
she will continue to do this for a few miles and then she will begin to behave.
when warm there is a 'hole'/hesitation just above idle too, which is far more prominant when cold, and when trying to start from warm i have to come off the starter motor and catch her by depressing the accelerator a little.she then staggers to life.
i have noticed that the throat of the left carb is sooty but the right is fine.
any ideas chaps?????

I can help you with the cold situation...the warm, I haven't the slighest(I have that same "hole" you were talking about) Seems simple, but you just gotta keep those revs up and run the engine until it gets warm. It takes longer for these old bugs to get used to the temperature. 5 mins at a lil more than idle rpm's should do the trick. Also, if you have an external oil cooler, see if you can get a switch that will only divert oil at a certain temperature. Like I said, I don't know about the warm...cause I am in the same boat. Hope that helps!!
