theres a little bit of smoke out of the left hole that goes to th fan

can i just cap them and run w/out the electric fan?
and if hooked up
will it feed exhaust into the cab?

are the heater boxes 2 pipes seperated like a type 3?

or is the air exhaust ?
or it should be clean hot air ?

am i just getting burn off?

what size are they?

The picture you linked to isn't of a T4 engine, but T4's did come with hoses. The fan is there so you can run the gas heater with the engine off, and not really necessary to have in normal operation. You do want to block the tubes off if the aux fan is missing though and you should not be getting any smoke up out of them when the engine is turned off. Check carefully for oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets, pushrod tubes, and oil pressure switch to make sure no oil is dripping down on top of the heater boxes and making its way inside.

You can probably get the paper or aluminium style hoses from your FLAPS, but if you choose to run with the hoses missing you can cap the left side with the correct size cap for a chain link fence post and for the right side you can make a cap out of sheet metal or use aluminium tape. I have wondered about using hoses for an industrial quality shop vac, but don't know how they would handle the heat of the engine compartment after shut down and you would have to have some adapters made to get them to fit.

Here is a picture of how I had the air ducts plugged on my 1800 bus engine for a decade and a half or so.

Just bear in mind that you cannot run the gas heater without that fan. It will overheat and shut down very qucikly. Ray

its a 1600 bus
but it shows what i mean

so i can just cap them?

maybe a coke can or something

remember ray i bipassed the heater fuel pump when i ran new fuel line

im basically going to disconnect anything that would make it work...
