Hello everybody! Has been a long time but i'm here! This project still alive of course.
I did the rottiserie, opened RGB's and i started to disassemble and clean the transmission case.
A previous owner swapped the transmission, and i got a split case model. Yesterday i opened it, and i found it pretty good, but both differential bearings are in bad conditions., I think due didn't use the correct axle boots. Also, the RGB bearings were totally wasted.
Taking out torsion bars
Ready to load
:D
Rear left drum was very tight, i had to make an extractor to get it out. Worked very nice.
The RGB's... note the sealed bearing used :S
One of the gears got the thread little brazen. I'm going to take this part to leather, and see what can do. If a new nut can be tighten correctly i will leave it, other way i'm going to make a new thread to use a smaller nut size.
And i made a stand for transmission :)

A previous owner did this hole in the case. I suppose because the last person that opened this tranny blocked the breathing hole with silicone. I can imagine it, cause i saw silicone everywhere :P
This is the hole. Nice uh? At least they added a bronze pipe to avoid water get inside :? :?
The question is, can this hole be welded with normal aluminum soldering? Or it requires some other special weld? |

Creo que no lo puedes soldar porque no estoy seguro de que sea completamente de aluminio y no una aleación de esas que ellos utilizaban, yo trataria de hacerle rosca y usar un tapon. Que bueno ver que sigues trabajando en la camioneta.
Saludos.

Gracias!
I'm not sure, but it is very lightweight, i feel it like aluminum (but i never hold a case of both materials). I will take pictures from numbers, maybe that helps to know what material is it. |

Buenas fotos!

| No habla es-spanish, but the case is magnesium. I'd just tap it for a short bolt and use some sealant. Or some JB weld if you can get to the underside so it does't drip in there... |

Thank you, is JB just normal epoxi component? I will post some close up pics about the other 2 semi-holes on the case, just in the main shaft seal :( |

BTW project is alive and always will be until complete and start to enjoy! It's just I already completed metal repairs, and i'm now working on bumpers while saving money to do some purchases on WW, WestCoastMetrics, and so on.
Both bumpers are deformed and dented a lot, plenty of holes, they really sucks when you look at them :(
I will come with some more pics, cause i got front and cargo flor welded in. Also nose is back! I will update this thread with some pictures soon.
Thanks everybody for your help! |

Yes, just two-part epoxy, designed for use with metals. Not sure what is available to you. |

Hello people! I'm uploading more pictures like i promised.
Finally rear floor is welded in! The guy with the metal sheet bender did an incredible work, bending one by one. The hand work cost me about 100usd, cheap! don't you think?
Look at results!

Front floor welded in!
Credits for me this time
Remember that old post when i was building it?
firula wrote: This is the front floor construction! :D :D
First draw on cardboard:
After some adjustments of cardboard in bus (was like try and fix), draw it in a cardboard wood sheet (don't know the name in english), and used a hand milling machine to create a sort of matrix.
Get this pneumatic hammer:
And modified one tool welding a tube to hold a piece of wood:
Worked pretty good, i had to re-weld 2 times, once the weld breaks by vibration, and the second, the iron tool break in weld part:
Looking like this:
Thanks for watch! More pics soon! |

At this point, money starts to become a problem, that's why this project is going slower. But don't worry, I will finish it some day!
I'm saving for buy parts there in the USA, and also I need to get the paint, because as soon as i paint it, i have to mount on it's own wheels and take out from workshop, otherwise the paint will be damaged soon.
Next month is 4 years since I bought this bus. Can you imagine how much i wish to drive it for first time?
By the way, this bus is not mine anymore, my soon is the new owner :D :D
