Hi, trying to hook up my restored OG Sapphire XIX Am-FM radio in my '72 Super. All the wiring diagrams show fuse #7 as the ACC terminal and nothing is presently hooked to it on the fused side of the box. The hot side has a 2.5m red wire attached there like the Bentley diagram shows. When I test this terminal with a volt meter, I get 12V on both sides whether or not the key is on. Shouldn't the ACC term be keyed on/off with the ignition so you can't leave the radio on my accident? Or, is there a short or misplaced wire on the fuse box giving me hot there all the time? If this is normal, which term is best to piggyback the radio with a keyed device like the horn, fan etc.? Thanks
PS, I may have found the answer after searching all the posts on this topic in the forum. Everyone says #7 is always on and to connect radio to 11 or 12 with the inline fuse that came with the stock radio (which I have) for switched radio. Is that best? My next question is what kind of accessory would use the always on terminal other than the memory wire of a modern radio, what did they envision it used for, cigarette lighter which I may add, not for smoking, but for Sirius radio power? |
