I have a 1960 Beetle that needs a reserve lever. I found the parts I need at Wolfsburg but I am confused about one part if someone can help me out here. Here is the link to the parts: http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wolfsburg/fuelsystem/index.html

The picture is a bit blurry but I think the part in question is #38. The pic shows it located between the reserve lever and the fuel tap. They say it is a fuel valve rebuild kit. So that just rebuilds the fuel tap right? <---Newbie question. I just want to make sure I don't buy anything that I don't need.
Thank you.

that part should be on your fuel valve. it is spring loaded. from the picture it looks like the cap, clip and rubber cover. your reserve tap goes on it and keep in place with a pin. i think you can buy the whole assembly for about $50 if you need a new one.

I am still a bit confused with what it does but I guess I will go ahead a buy it just in case I do need it. It only costs $7.00. Thanks guys for replying! Take it easy.

#38 is the rebuild kit which is the rubber seal/valve that fits inside and has holes thro' it that line up with the pipes ie for on/off/reserve. There's a clip that holds the cover plate on and a boot that goes over the lot. Not a bad idea to have a spare kit esp. if your tap doesn't get used very often, as the rubber valve goes hard with time and leaks.

I rebuilt mine with this kit. Hardest part was getting the old retaining clip/ring OUT. Would have been easier if I had waited for the kit to show up and followed the instructions...
