View original topic: Gas dripping out of heater Box

This is my last plea before I take it to the Doctors. My beetle has been running poorly for the last week and now it won't even do 20MPH. I have replaced the Coil, Plugs, Plug Wires, Roter, Cap, and Condensor. I noticed today that there is gas dripping out of the heater box. I'm thinking that it is above my expertise. All input is appreciated.

If it is the heater box on the driver side, check the fuel line where it comes out of the chassis and connects to the copper line.It is approximately above the heater box and could be dripping fuel into that box.
This is briaded line and may look OK but be rotted inside. Replace line if it is damp or dripping or very hard. It is definitely a FIRE hazard. Do not drive car until gas problem is resolved. Checking and Replacing this line should be a normal maintenence item but it is often overlooked.

If it is not the above... what about the valves... any adjustment recently??? if not and you have "tight" valves, this can lead to the poor running and not power and the unburnt fuel could accumulate and then drip out where the heat exchanger and the muffler meet....
I would say re torquw the heads and adjust the valves yourself or take it to someone who you know will give you a reasonable diagnosis...

Hello everyone. Good news! it is fixed.
Unfortunatley I had to take it to the professional. Dunlop Garage. He is very reasonable, especially when I make dumb mistakes. The solution was new plugs and timing. Eventhough I cleaned the plugs, which looked good to me, I guess was not good enough for the VW. He changed the plugs and reset the timing and Vuala runs like a charm. All the parts I replaced and services also is insurance that it will run for a while without major oops.
Thanks everone.
