so its been like 6 hours. i finally got my engine in, but now the top bolt on the left (passenger) wont go all the way in, but its really tight, and the half moon one thats on the other side doesnt go in enough to get a nut on it. whats up with that?i even tried to tilt the engine a little

Hey bloop, read the next thread....those books might help. Let me know.

Bloop;
Is it possible that you just have that particular bolt turned wrong? The head is "flat" on one side so it can go in tight against the starter.
Sounds kind of dumb, but I've been stuck on much dumber things than that.

yeah thats the thing that got me stumped, the bolt is al the way in, and flat against the started, but, the other side doesnt go through, i think it may be crooked, like the bottom bolts are all the way in, but i think the top part of the engine isnt in or something, freeking beetles, im only doing it to learn anyway, itll go in a bus next (but to stay) most likely, so im sure that will be an easier more straight forward (literally) installation, without all the bricks and jacks and tilts and pushes and shoves and pulls

I had that same problem a few in and outs ago...i removed the engine again ,at least far enough to clear the bottom studs slid right in like it was buttered i think the pinion shaft missed the clutch hole and caused the whole thing to skew and the bottom studs went through but the top was hled up by the pinion shaft

correction to my last i had to totally remove the engine and realign the clutch because i knocked it out of alignment while getting frustrated and "HE-MAN" with it

Bllop,

It's most likely that you don't have the clutch plate properly lined up, so the gearbox shaft has not slotted home into the gland nut pinion bearing. It's the one critical alignment that needs doing before putting the engine back in. An aligning tool is great, though it can be done by careful eye too (I've always done it that way).

If the engine is not fully "home" you can see it by looking down in front of the fan shroud - you can see the front mounts of the engine and whether it's seated home in the bell housing. DON'T tighten the bottom bolts fully until you have the whole engine in and home!

if you have the tranny in gear and spin the engine a little when you think you are getting close you will 'feel' when the shaft finally slips in and seats correctly as the engine will suddenly stop turning and you can wiggle the pulley as you slide the engine on, it either slides on easily or something is not lined up all the way and you will end up breaking something, must pull the engine back all the way and start over... good luck
