| In my 69 bug Air comes through a vent on the left hand side dask, but it looks like a grate, I think that was to disquise the vent, anyway was this ment for a speaker? |

My 71 has a speaker there - if I'm thinking of the same place on the dashboard you are describing. It's like a 4" round speaker. I now have a "system" in my Bug, but I just left that particular speaker there. In the winter I throw a blanket in front of it to cut down on the cold air.
