Espinosa Wed Nov 20, 2002 10:54 pm

thayer and i went and looked at a 59 euro in tucson a months ago or so.

the owner said, and i quote "it even has those little turn signal pop up thingies."

classic shit.

the owner did however failed to mention that it also had a cut in "ventilation system"

maybe thayer would care to explain that "system"

One of the most wanted parts for 1950:ties Cabrios is the semaphore indicators if you live in Europe. In US they had flashing indicators from 1955, the European car did not get that until 1960.
Up to 1952 the semaphores was of the same model as for the saloon, but from ¦53 the semaphores was a special model for the Cabrio. If you try to fit a semaphore from a saloon you will find that it is too large to fit nicely,Orange lenses till 1954, 55 and on took yellow .

1961 actually.

I learned to drive in my Dad's 1960 beetle which had the semaphores (We got Euro spec beetles in Australia), But we called them "trafficators" (traffic indicators) in Australia.

We lived in a humid climate (Darwin Northern Territory) and the sliders in the semaphores were always getting stuck - I was forever taking them apart, clenaing them up and oiling the sliders to try to stop them rusting.

I wondered if it was possible to get them to blick when they popped out, but it would have taken extra wiring and I didn't have the skills back then.

I was not happy when Dad sold the bug to get a new 1969 Morris 1100 (folks in the UK will remember them).

Semaphores are cool, when you see one pop up, you gotta grab it and twist it off. This usually upsets the owner, so I wouldnt recomend it.
lol

IF your sixty nine bug is in fact a sixty nine bug and you did read the above info and you still want to know if your sixty nine bug needs semaphores? Turn your bug on it's back and tickle it!
