Some people tell me that I should convert my gen system to an alt one on my '69 bug I'm rebuilding. Would appreciate any input. thanks.

Lots of opinions on this one - mostly that if you have any problems with your generator or regulator you should just convert over to an alternator.

I have the stock generator in my 71 Super. I have never had any problems with it, and it provides plenty of power. However, if you're going to fun a big stereo system you may want to go the altnernator route.

I've heard that the whole conversion costs about $150.00.

If your generator works fine and you don't plan on running a lot of lights or a big stereo don't waste the money.... if your generator needs replacing then swap over to an alternator because it won't cost you any more than buying a new generator.
